Top Boy: Post #36
One my closest friends favorite show is Top Boy. Top Boy is a gritty portrayal of the urban communities of London. It includes my friend's favorite British rapper Dave in the show, where he plays the crime lord, Modie. The show is quite fascinating as it includes reflections of an environment sparsely seen outside of rarities like Kidulthood. So realistic, it draws criticism from Slew Dem’s Chronik for essentially dry snitching on the inner workings of the drug economy in an interview with GrimeReportTV. The show is so realistic that it's original show airing in England on channel 4 was banned in London because it gave away the inner working of the drug cartels in the city. The show has been revamped and slightly changed for Netflix. Drake the Canadian rapper is one of the show producers who originally pushed for Top Boy to be brought back to TV through Netflix.
My friend, Joubin, has watched the entire series multiple times and is now forcing my friend Johnathan and I to watch it with him on Netflix Party, an app that allows you to watch Netflix at the same time as your friends. The only issue is that my friends being on the west coast and going to school on the west coast is that they don't have to be up early for classes. Unlike me who has to be up at 6:30 everyday for my 7ams. Of course, I try to sleep right up until 6:55 where then I scramble quickly to log in to Zoom, find my notebooks, a pen, while simultaneously checking the stock market, shoe drops. and Twitter. I like Top Boy a lot but I think I prefer sleep a little more.
